Gas R C Airplane

Up until recent times the with the advent of efficient electric motors and rechargeable batteries and miniaturized servos/receivers etc the best form of power plant for your rc airplane was the ic gas engine.

Although wet power is named as Gas, it is different from ordinary auto gasoline. RC gas fuel for model aircraft is a mix of lubricant (synthetic or castor oil), methanol and nitro methane.

The power plant for the radio control airplane is usually called gas engines or for electrics which is called a motor.
Gas R C airplane engines are available in 2-stroke (louder, cheaper, and more powerful for the same displacement) and 4-stroke (a more scale sound, less vibration, but more expensive). The rc aircraft gas engine displacements are normally measured in cu. In. the US (A60 engine= 10cc[actually 0.61 cu.in.]).

RC gas engine for model airplanes have four distinct categories - Glow - Gasolene - Diesel - Turbine powered.
Gasolene powered rc model aircraft have taken on a popularity over the years, and for a good reason with a shift to a larger more powerfull aircraft model. For a while this was done with large displacement glow engines.

There are many things to consider when choosing a rc gas engine for your model airplane. The following are just a few,
Glow engines are usually lighter, more simple, powerful, less prone to give radio interference from the ignition system and run cooler. Glow engines can also be a lot less expensive always a good reason when putting together the overall rc gas airplane package.

If you want a really big rc gas glow engine in your aircraft it comes with a price tag thou as they tend to be a bit fuel thirsty compared to a gasoline engine something like 2 ½ times more and with glow fuel 7-10 times more expensive than gasoline. So by comparison today's rc gas engines for aircraft are quite powerful, economic and reliable.

Glow engines tend to make a lot of oily mess on your rc gas powered aircraft due to oil in the fuel so lots of cleaning required. While the fuel for gas engine rc aircraft is the same as used in your lawnmowers and two-stroke bike
